How Foyer handles the information you share when you apply to rent a home, and how long that information is kept.
What we collect, and why
COUNSEL-GATE PLACEHOLDER — The categories of information collected and the purposes they are used for will be described here. This section is not yet counsel-approved and is intentionally left as a placeholder.
How long we keep it
Foyer keeps different kinds of information for different lengths of time. Every clock below starts from an anchor — an event, not the day you applied — and nothing starts deleting before that anchor happens.
| What | Kept for | Anchor |
|---|---|---|
| Submitted documents (the files themselves) | 90 days after the listing is decided | the listing is leased or closed |
| Application answers | your firm sets its own window, somewhere within 365–2555 days (1 to 7 years) | the same listing anchor |
| Proof of what happened (your consent, your signature) | kept indefinitely, redacted over time | — |
| An application you abandon (never submitted) | 90 days of inactivity | your last activity on it |
| Backstop if a listing is never closed | 12 months from submission | the date you submitted |
Withdrawing an application seals your record — it is kept, sealed, not deleted — but it starts no deletion clock. Sealing neither accelerates nor delays the schedule above; your record ages out on exactly the same anchor as everyone else’s on that listing, no sooner and no later.
Deletion on this schedule removes data from Foyer’s live database and file storage. Deleted data may persist in our hosting provider’s encrypted backups for the provider’s backup-retention window after deletion, and becomes unrecoverable once that window lapses.
How to have information deleted
Signed in, the Your data page (under your dashboard, at /data) shows everything Foyer holds about you, lets you download a copy of it — including a signed-record PDF of each application or guaranty you submitted — and carries the deletion controls below.
You can delete your own vault-library documents at any time from your documents page — that is the same in-app control you already have, and it removes both the file and its copy in your library. An application you started but never submitted can be deleted immediately from the Your data page: its answers are erased and its documents detached on the spot, unless a legal hold covers it. Documents you have already submitted to a firm follow the retention schedule above: they are not deleted on request — withdrawing seals the record from the firm immediately, and it then ages out on its anchor. A legal hold pauses any of these clocks while it stands.
